The tar pits show what life was like during the time of the cave man. If you visit on the second Tuesday of the month you can also visit the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) next door.
Museum not worth the price, just enjoy the tar pits outside, go down the sidewalk path toward the art museum, they have an active dig site you can visit.
Japanese art collection nearby is impressive. Cool elephants in the tar pits too!

The French "Art Deco" cars are just amazing. Some of the best examples in the world.
The exterior architecture is a work of art in itself. Not to be missed. Must see at night.

If you come from the west, park your car here, and you can walk to Gallery 1988 East. Only 4 blocks away. Two hours parking in the neighborhood. it's sufficient for two galleries.

Fantastic exhibition, a little pricey at $25 but there is a feast of visual inspiration from Del Toro's films, classic Disney movies and illustrators/comic artists. A must-see for any film/horror buff

Not that well curated, seems like a mix of del Toro's and LACMA'S collections without a lot of explanation as to why each piece was chosen (beyond the theme of each gallery).

We followed the Mass' travels to LACMA- excited by art concept/physics. Kids(14,12,10,6) were deflated when we saw it. "I totally see the ledge & It is sitting on a shelf". I saw "Holocaust memorial".
This is stupid. Human beings 1000s of years ago moved rocks this big without modern machinery and built pyramids and temples. Some guy took this rock made by nature and takes credit for it as "art".

Casual place in the courtyard of the LA County Museum of Art. Great spot w/ excellent food. Highly recommend spending an afternoon checking out art and relaxing at the restaurant & bar.
