First, this venue is beautiful. Get there early enough and street parking is easy to find. There's also a pay lot that isn't very expensive. It isn't difficult to find a great view here

Park at Lacma. The views of the Hollywood hills are amaze from the terrace, on windy days it may be a challenge. Come on the 2nd Tuesday of the month because the other parts of LACMA are free.

Best viewing pit: #91, north side of the Japanese pavilion of LACMA. Go inside to see an actual excavation with big bones sticking up from the tar.
Japanese art collection nearby is impressive. Cool elephants in the tar pits too!
The layout of each museum floor is perfect and gives you plenty of time to view, read and take pictures of each automobile.
